Angel is an American television series created by Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt as a spin-off to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was also created by Whedon.

Premise Edit

The series focuses around Angel, an Irish vampire who is over 200 years old. Angel was known as Angelus during his rampage across Europe, but was cursed with a soul, which gave him a conscience and guilt for centuries of murder and torture. He left Buffy the Vampire Slayer at the end of Season 3 to move to Los Angeles in search of redemption.

He soon finds himself assisted by Allen Francis Doyle, another Irish character who is a half-human, half-demon who, although he comes across as a ne'er-do-well hustler, has a heroic side. They're soon joined by Cordelia Chase, a former popular high school cheerleader also a previous cast from Buffy.

Why It Was Cancelled Edit

According to head writer David Fury, because the show's ratings were up and and receiving critical attention, Whedon specifically asked Jordan Levin, who was the head of The WB at the time, to give them an early pick-up because every year they would wait so long to give the show a pick-up and a lot of the crew would turn down jobs hoping that the series would continue - Joss did not want this to happen and, feeling very confidant, asked Jordan to make the decision now on whether or not they would be picking them up. Jordan, with his hands tied and back against the wall, called Joss and announced that the show was being cancelled. Fury later stated that this was because Jordan's hand was forced on the matter.
