Dinotopia: The Series is a fantasy series based on the series of books of the same name. It was made in 2002 as a result of the success the similarly named TV miniseries that aired earlier that year, to which it serves as a followup, even though none of the main cast reprise their roles.
Picking up some time after the events of the miniseries, the Scott family, consisting of Frank and stepbrothers Karl and David, are trying to adapt to life on Dinotopia, an island where humans and dinosaurs coexist together. In doing so, they must struggle to survive among local carnivores and a group of people called the Outsiders, who live outside the laws of the island. Along the way, the Scott's receive aid from Marion, the mayor's daughter Karl's girlfriend, and Zipeau, a neurotic Troodon.
Why It Was Cancelled Edit
It was originally planned by ABC to premiere in September, but was held back until Thanksgiving. It premiered to a rather disappointing first viewership, but it continued to air nonetheless, with ABC pointing out that it was an "oddball viewing night overall." As ratings continued to decline, the series was cancelled after six episodes were aired on ABC, with the remaining seven premiering in Europe the following year.
