Family Guy is an American adult animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane for the Fox Broadcasting Company.

Premise[]

The show revolves around the Griffin family, consisting of parents Peter and Lois; their children Meg, Chris, and Stewie; and their anthropomorphic pet dog Brian. It is set in the fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island, and exhibits much of its humor in the form of cutaway gags that often lampoon American culture.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

During its second and third seasons, Fox frequently moved the show around to different days and time slots with little to no notice and, consequently, its ratings suffered. On May 15, 2002, it was absent from Fox's annual unveiling of its fall lineup and was announced to have been cancelled shortly thereafter.

Revival[]

The show aired in reruns on Adult Swim on April 20, 2003, and immediately became the block's top-rated program, dominating late-night viewings in its first time period and boosting high in ratings. It also became a best-seller, selling more than 2.2 million copies in DVD sales. The show's popularity rose as a result and convinced Fox to revive it, and a fourth season premiered on May 1, 2005. It has since become one of the longest-running animated series of all time.
