Futurama is an American animated science-fiction comedy series created by Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, for the Fox Broadcasting Company.

Premise Edit

The series follows the adventures of a late-20th-century New York City pizza delivery boy, Philip J. Fry, who, after being unwittingly cryogenically frozen for one thousand years, finds employment at Planet Express, an interplanetary delivery company in the retro-futuristic 31st century.

Why It Was Cancelled Edit

Throughout its run, the show was aired erratically at different time slots and air dates, which resulted in several episodes produced for the third and fourth seasons not airing and instead being held over a fifth season broadcast. According to Groening, Fox executives were not supporters of the show. Fox decided to stop buying episodes midway through production on the fourth season, letting it go out of production before the fall 2003 lineup.

Revival Edit

In June 2009, Comedy Central was announced was announced to have picked up the show for 26 new half-hour episodes. It originally started as four direct-to-DVD films that were later split into several episodes to make up a fifth season. The series officially premiered with a sixth season on June 24, 2010 and ran until concluding with a seventh and final season on September 4, 2013.
