Stargate Universe (often abbreviated SGU) is a Canadian-American military science fiction television series created by Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper. It is part of MGM's Stargate franchise.
The show follows the adventures of a present-day, multinational exploration team traveling on the ancient spaceship Destiny several billion light years distant from the Milky Way Galaxy. They evacuated there and are now trying to figure out a way to return to Earth, while simultaneously trying to explore and to survive in their unknown area in the universe.
Why It Was Cancelled Edit
In its second season, the show declined in viewership ratings. Series co-creator Wright attributed this to its change in timeslot (from Friday night to Tuesday night, and then again to Monday night). In response to angry fan reactions, Syfy released a letter explaining the reason for the show's cancellation. The letter discussed the fact that ratings during the first season had fallen significantly on the Friday timeslot, dropping over 25% of its viewership during the long hiatus between the first and second half of the season. This prompting Syfy to start the second season in the Tuesday timeslot making room on Friday for wrestling, the change from Friday to Tuesday being a major factor in the reduction of viewership.
There is an ongoing comic book series set after the end of season two, but the original creators and writers are not involved.
